The Colombian army has found and destroyed two clandestine airstrips used by drug traffickers, local media reported Monday.
The first airstrip, found in the northern Cordoba department, was destroyed by military experts in a controlled explosion, radio station Santa Fe reported. The army said the airstrip belonged to the “Urabeños,” a neo-paramilitary group hailing from the northwestern Uraba region.
The second airstrip, destroyed in a similar manner, was found in the eastern Casanare department. According to newscast CM&, the army said the landing stretch had been used by a local drug trafficking group.
Guerrilla group FARC and several neo-paramilitary groups are active in Casanare.
