The Colombian government will spend more than $83 million on road reconstruction to fix routes that were damaged during the winter. 
Carlos Ivan Marquez, Colombia’s director of the National Risk Management Agency told local media that the government plans to invest $83.8 million in heavy machinery for repairing damaged roads.
“We are making efforts so that the funds are ready in the first half of this year, the idea is to prioritize the departments in which the damage to roads has been the greatest,” said Marquez.
Regions across the center of the country, including the Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Santander, and the Valle de Cauca departments reportedly are the highest priorities.
According to the World Bank, bad roads, particularly ones that link the country’s major cities to the coasts, bottleneck Colombia’s economic competitiveness.
