A Korean defense company and Colombia’s armed forces will jointly develop sonars and radars for the defense sector, reported newspaper El Espectador on Sunday.
According to the newspaper, LIG NEX 1 will work with the Colombian defense industry to develop projects to design, develop, manufacture, assemble, integrate and test the operation of sensors.
Its center of operations will be in Villavicencio, in the department of Meta.
The CEO of LIG NEX 1, Lee Hyo Koo stated “LIG NEX 1, with its advanced technology aspires to be part of the Colombian force to contribute to the maintenance of security and peace of the people.”
El Espectador report that Colombia has also purchased 16 missiles from LIG NEX 1, with the intention of modernizing four of its war ships.
“After a rigorous process of technical and economic studies of different options, accompanied by cost effective analysis, we confirmed an agreement with of sale with the Republic of Korea for the acquisition of the required systems” explained the Navy.
LIG NEX 1 currently supply the Korean military, and this year alone have sold $170 million worth of equipment to them, reported El Espectador.
“LIG NEX 1, with the best quality and an optimized service with next generation technology, will provide all of its effort to promote peace and prosperity in Colombia” added Lee Hyo Koo.
