Colombia and Panama will work together to improve security in the
border region the countries share. Presidents Álvaro Uribe and Martín
Torrijos concluded this after a meeting in Bogotá.
Torrijos visited Uribe in the Colombian capital on Tuesday, as the two discussed how to improve cooperation in the future.
Following the meeting, Torrijos held a brief press conference in which he emphasized the willingness to “share experiences, between the two nations that share a 266km border.”
Security is a major issue in the border area of the two countries, with drugs trafficking forming a challenge for authorities on both sides.
The Panamanian chief of state went on to thank Colombia for the solidarity it has shown with Panama at “difficult moments, like when nature hit us last year. The support we received was very effective.”
About the capturing of DMG owner David Murcia Guzmán, who was arrested in Panama, Torrijos said that it had been a “very effective collaboration.”
