Colombia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Jaime Bermudez, on Tuesday arrived in Australia for a meeting to discuss diplomatic relations between Colombia and the Pacific country, reported Colombian media.
The main topics of discussion during the meeting will be trade and education, with an aim to initiate processes that will increase Australia’s influence in Colombia.
Bermudez explained that he aims to generate support from Australia for Colombia’s aspirations to join the Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation (Apec), whilst the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) plans to promote business opportunities in the Latin American market and established new offices in Latin American countries, including Colombia.
According to El Espectador, the Colombian official will also be holding talks concerning the establishment of new environmental conservation schemes, with the objective of creating an initiative to conserve and protect marine ecology in the water surrounding the countries.
The scheme will also work in conjunctionwith the governments of Chile and New Zealand.
Bermudez’s meeting with Australian officials will commence on Wednesday and go on for three days.
