Colombia’s Air Force has begun an investigation into a training mission in a Cessna A-37 plane that went horribly wrong on Thursday and resulted in the death of the Lieutenant student and the serious injury of the Captain professor, according to a Colombian Air Force press release.
During the pre-flight checklist, a fire started in the cabin that affected both of the men inside, according to the Air Force Press Release.
The professor of the training mission was Captain Eduardo Enrique Torres and the student was Lieutenant Manuel Ricardo Gómez.
Captain Torres sustained serious injuries and was in intensive care. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Gomez succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a hospital.
Colombia’ Air Force has initiated an investigation at the Air Force base where the event occurred with a multidisciplinary team from the Inspector General’s unit of the Air Force.
The A-37 plane is an American made aircraft from the 1970s. This is not the first time an A-37 airplane is involved in an accident.
