President of the Colombian National Electoral Committee (CNE) said Tuesday he had no knowledge of resolution outlining a supposed misuse of funds in the Green Party Presidential campaign.
Oscar Giraldo said he did not see, approve or sign the resolution posted on the CNE website that “had to do with a process of review of the income and expenditure of the candidacy of Anatas Mockus.” The resolution has now been removed.
According to media outlet CN&, there was a report posted on the CNE website alleging that a contract showed payment of $27,000 was made to Sergio Fajardo to be Mockus’ running mate, and that the electoral watchdog condemned the payment as “a reprehensible political practice that maintained nepotism and corruption.”
Another CNE official said that the campaign’s finances were being examined and the payment had been noted, but no official resolution condemning it had been issued.
Giraldo added, “We express that (the contracts) don’t correspond to campaign expenses.”
Fajardo responded to the accusations Tuesday via his Twitter page.
