A gas company plans to build a hydroelectric plant in southwest Colombia which will reduce CO2 emissions, newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.
Fenosa Natural Gas has registered a hydroelectric plant as a Clean Development Mechanism project before the executive board of the United Nations for Climate Change according to a company report.
The company estimates that this plant will be able to reduce the emission of the greenhouse gas CO2 by 45,669 tons a year.
A Clean Development Mechanism project allows a company to be awarded Certified Emission Reductions which can be bought and sold in the marketplace or be used by countries to meet their emission limit quota.
The hydroelectric plant will be located in the department of Valle del Cauca in the southwest of the country where the water of the Tulua River could generate 117.4 gigawatt hours per year.
