Civilians say they will sue the army over an attack on a truck by the Colombian army, in which 15 people were wounded in the south of Colombia.
A silver Chevrolet Dimax truck was traveling along a road in San Vicente del Caguan, Caqueta, on the evening of May 10 when it was fired upon by soldiers from the 27 Mobile Brigrade of the Joint Task Force of Algeciras.
The soldiers were reportedly searching for guerrillas from the Teofilo Forero front of the FARC in the area and according to an army statement the assault was carried out “apparently due to an unavoidable error.”
New reports indicate that 15 of the 16 passengers in the truck were treated for injuries, the most serious being that of a 24-year-old and an 18-year-old who were hit in the abdominal region and the head.
A baby was also reportedly transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the buttocks and hips.
Previous reports indicated eight people were in the vehicle, six of which had been injured.
Civilians are denouncing the criminal and disciplinary bodies as well as the government for the events that occurred.
Human rights organizations in the area report that the army gave no warning to the population that there might be guerrillas from the Teofilo Forero front in the area.
