A demobilized guerrilla of the FARC claims Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez met with leaders of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC on Colombian territory in 1998, one year before he became president.
According to “Sara Morales,” Chavez “met with members of the FARC on Colombian territory on several occasions.”
Chavez then met with Rodrigo Echeverry, better known under his alias “Timochenko” in the border zone of the northern Colombian Norte de Santander department, the ex-guerrilla told Colombian radio station Caracol.
During those meetings Chavez gained himself a guerrilla alias; “Comrade Pedro,” the guerrilla added.
The guerrilla ratified Colombian years-long accusations that the Venezuelan President supplied the guerrillas with weapons. “In other times, a lot of arms were delivered to other (FARC) fronts. I believe the Southern Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. They didn’t tell me this, but you can see this. This didn’t happen on Venezuelan territory, it took place in Ocaña and near the Rio de Oro,” the demobilized guerrilla said.
