Colombian air traffic continues to be in chaos this week depite a labor deal struck between air-traffic controllers and aviation authorities Sunday night.
Aerocivil Director Santiago Castro claimed this deal would allow air traffic to return to normal but problems continued on Tuesday with at least 26 cancelations and 70 delays.
Avianca, Colombia’s largest airline, was responsible for 25 of these cancelations and 42 of the delays.
Colombian air travel has grown an average of 8% annually over the past five years which has increased pressure on airport structure and personnel. Following the deal with the air-traffic controllers, the government announced it would invest $197 to fix its clogged air transport system.
