Colombia’s famous coastal city of Cartagena is planning to host the 2013 International Conference of Caribbean Cruises from Florida, reported President Juan Manuel Santos on Wednesday.
President Santos said the event is a good opportunity for the country because it will allow people working in this business to “know more about our travel destinations and bring further tourism and investment” to Colombia.
The decision to hold the conference in Cartagena happened during the most recent cruise ship seminar in Puerto Rico.
Santos has supported the expansion of Colombia’s cruise commerce, commenting back in September that “another very important sector, no doubt, with immense potential, is cruise ship tourism.”
Colombia’s head of state concluded that “the growth of this activity in our country over the last five years has become a landmark.”
