Colombia’s Caribbean port town of Cartagena has been listed as one of Central and South America’s top wine and food destinations by travel website Tripadvisor.com.
Of thousands of cities throughout the region, Cartagena was listed as number seven in the list of the top 10 meccas for journies of the gastronomical variety.
The travel website praised the abundance of fresh seafood – ceviche is a must try dish – and the incorporation of strange and delicious tropical fruits into local dishes.
Top picks for Cartagena eateries were Italian style restaurant “La Cevicheria,” Argentine style eatery “Quebracho,” “El Santismo,” Caribbean seafood restaurant “La Langosta” and typical Colombian venue “La Plaza de Macono.”
The beach resort city of Cartagena, located on the northern Caribbean coast, is Colombia’s fifth largest city and the capital of the Bolivar department.
The beautiful port town of Cartagena is a popular tourist destination and its colonial walled city was designated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1984.
