Representatives from the advertising world will come together in northern Colombia for the first anti-prejudice advertising and marketing congress, Colombian media reported on Thursday.

“This type of event could change the stereotypes shown in the media and reproduced in the daily life of people, raising awareness about the significance of advertising in such situations.”

The event, held by the Chao Racism (Goodbye Racism) organization in Cartagena, aims to promote human dignity, social development, and eradicate all forms of racial stereotypes and prejudice towards gender and towards the  lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community.

The first Congress of Inclusive Marketing and Advertising (CIMPI) that will take place on May 29 and 30 at the Cartagena convention center.

“This type of event could change the stereotypes shown in the media and reproduced in the daily life of people, raising awareness about the significance of advertising in such situations,” said director of CIMPI, Carolina Muñoz according to El Espectador.

The world comes to Cartagena

Leading representatives from the advertising and marketing world will attend the event.

Oliviero Toscani, who is the most influential photographer of the twentieth century and is known for his work with Benetton marketing will attend, as will Carlos Ferreirinha, who is considered a guru in marketing convenience.

Also attending will be Alberto Pierpaoli, marketing specialist for the female audience and author of “Mal-treated by the Marketing” along with Ruben Sandoval, creator of the largest fair for the LGBTI community in Latin America, and John Pablo Salazar who created the “Roll up” campaign in solidarity for the victims of landmines.

“Inclusive” advertising

“Inclusive marketing and advertising enables content which addresses, dignifies and respects diversity of people, ideologies and territories,” The director of Chao Racism, Ray Charrupi, said according to El Espectador,

“Chao Racism as well as CIMPI is committed to the need of the inclusion and that it is understood in different sectors and parts of society, including marketing and advertising with products and services that give dignity to Africans, Indians, women, the LGBTI community and people with functional diversity.”

“Considering and reflecting that inclusion, besides being a socially sustainable aspect, is an efficient and productive strategy which has generated millions of dollars over the past 20 years,”
