The beautiful north Colombian port city of Cartagena unleashed Tuesday a new security plan for the upcoming university and college vacations, reported local newspaper El Universal.
The new security plan, named “Cartagena shielded,” is designed to adequately cope with the pressure of high season in the UNESCO World Heritage listed city. As of Friday, most schools, universities and colleges entered vacations and authorities have already reported an increase in the number of visitors to the city.
The Metropolitan Police of Cartagena announced that they will have 300 extra officers patrolling the main thoroughfares, avenues and beaches. “The Command of the Metropolitan is working for the safety of all citizens, this week in particular” said the deputy commander of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police.
There will be information booths where police will provide guidance and assistance to tourists and residents visiting the various historical sites, beaches, churches, shopping malls and the colonial port town.
Uniformed police will also be conducting road checks, breath tests and speed checks at different parts of the road to the sea.
