A car bomb allegedly planted by left-wing guerrilla group FARC exploded Monday in Colombia’s troubled southwest Valle del Cauca department.
The explosive detonated in the municipality of Miranda, located in the north of the department. Authorities indicated that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the car bomb, but the explosion caused damage to the structure of a nearby service station and a number of houses in the area.
Authorities have attributed the attack to the FARC, alleging that the intention of the explosion was to put pressure on local merchants to pay extortion payments.
