Another attack on a bus has caused a route to be suspended due to its high risk in the western Colombian city of Cali Wednesday.
The attack took place in the city of Cali on Wednesday when a group of people threw a gasoline canister at a bus travelling on the Integrated System of Mass Transit (MIO).
Although the canister failed to catch fire it did break the windows of the bus. At this moment no one has been reported injured.
The attack, which is the latest in a series against this and other routes, has prompted Metro Cali to suspend the route A41 as it cannot guarantee passenger safety.
District 4 Commander of the Metropolitan Police, Eduard Rodriguez Pena, who also warned that the A47 route is under threat, said. “We know this is going to cause trauma to passengers in these areas, but we also need support from the community to speak out against these vandals, we cannot allow operations to continue while we have no warranties of safety for citizens.”
This latest incident comes a day after there was a bus driver’s protests in the city which turned violent with several people allegedly suffering burn injuries from a firebomb Tuesday.
According to Caracol Radio, 14 people were arrested and six people were injured during the protest.
Bus drivers have been protesting against the Integrated System of Mass Transit (MIO) since mid-August. The protests were instigated by the imminent departure of at least 20 public transport companies by the first of November.
