Bogota

Cafe de la Fonda coffee factory, some of the best joe in Bogota

by Tara Morris March 28, 2013
5.2K

Cafe de la Fonda, a small, independently owned coffee factory in the heart of downtown Bogota brews a fine cup coffee as well as harvesting, processing an roasting beans to be packaged for domestic and international export.

Owner Julian Jaramillo owns a small coffee factory located behind Central Cemetery in Bogota where he brews a good cup of Joe and bags up beans for domestic and international export. The name Fonda was inspired the country home, a place alongside the road where travelers can stop to relax and have a good cup of coffee.

It’s widely known here in Colombia that while the beans are of excellent quality, the brews you find in the restaurants and cafes are lousy because the good stuff is exported. Cafe de la Fonda follows suit and has two brands, Cafe Paris for domestic distribution and Cafe de la Fonda for export. The coffee is grown under special conditions, small farms in the Andrean mountains that are above 5,250 feet altitude. Coffee farmers harvest the beans with great precision, picking the beans by hand, soaking them in crystal clean water and then letting them sun dry in order to retain excellent quality and flavor.

Upon entering the establishment, you are able to enjoy a delightful cup of coffee or take a tour of the small coffee plant in back and see the brewers in their element. Depending on the time of day, the machines may be cranking away and workers will be working speedily to package the goods. Feel free to smell the beans, enjoy a delightfully prepared cup of coffee and take plenty of photos at this quint little hideaway.

The coffee factory is located behind Central Cemetery at Cl 24 20-96.
