Cuban superstars the Buena Vista Social Club will swing through Medellin May 5 as part of a South American tour.
The Club brings its vibrant brand of classic Latin rhythms to Bogota’s International Aguapanelas event center Friday May 4, kicking off the South American leg of their world tour.
The second tour date at Medellin’s El Teatro Metropolitano marks a return of the masters of cha cha cha, bolero and son montuno to Colombia’s second city with tickets priced from COP 156,000 to 80,000 ($90 to $45).
Stars of the Buena Vista Social Club film including Guajiro Mirabal (trumpet) and Aguaje Ramos (trombone) will add flair to the rich tones of Omara Portunodo, “the first lady of the Buena Vista Social Club.”
Support from fellow Cubans Los Cuatro de Belen (The Four of Bethlehem) will intensify the evening’s Havana heat, according to local media.
Formed in 1997 and comprised of a changing blend of trumpet players, pianists, singers and guitarists, the Buena Vista Social Club became an international sensation when it released its only studio album that year.
Some of the group’s founding members and most powerful talents have since passed away, but its infective, passionate music continues to draw sell-out crowds around the world.
