The EU announced on Tuesday that it is developing a framework agreement with Colombia to include Bogota in Brussels’ peace keeping operations.
According to an EU press statement, the first round of negotiations were held in the headquarters of the European External Action Service (EEAS), the union’s foreign ministry.
The talks were attended by a Colombian delegation led by Defense vice-Minister Jorge Bedoya, and another group led by Didier Lenoir of the EU’s Planning and Negotiation of Crisis Management Directorate.
The Framework Agreement of Participation will provide a legal basis to regulate and facilitate Colombia’s participation in the civilian and military crisis management operations of the EU.
Upon its finalization, the agreement will demonstrate significant progress toward Colombia’s inclusion and cooperation in crisis management, the statement said.
