Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has completed the investigation against former government officials for the alleged bribery of congressmen to secure the 2006 re-election of former President Alvaro Uribe.
Prosecutors will now decide whether to charge the former officials or to close the case.
Former minister Diego Palacio and former chiefs of staff Alberto Velasquez and Bernardo Moreno were investigated after former congresswoman Yidis Medina accused them of offering her bribes to gain her support for a constitutional change needed to allow Uribe to run for a re-election in 2006.
Yidis Medina is currently serving a prison sentence for accepting the bribes and former minister Sabas Pretelt de la Vega was barred from holding public office for his alleged involvement in the scandal.
