Bogota’s Los Andes maintains position as Colombia’s best university

A British firm specializing in educational issues has ranked two Colombian universities in Latin America’s top 15.

Bogota’s Andes University  was ranked the fifth best university in Latin America and the best in Colombia with a score of 94.7.

The National University ranked number 14, receiving a score of 84.6.

The “QS University Rankings: Latin America” have been released annually by the firm Quacquarelli Symonds since 2011.

In order to assign each university a ranking out of 100, the British firm weighs key indicators in the following manner:

Academic reputation (30%); Employer reputation (20%); Faculty/student ratio (10%); Citations per paper (10%); Papers per faculty (10%) Proportion of staff with a PhD (10%); and Web impact (10%.)

Colombia’s top universities

  1. Andes University (Bogota) – 94.7
  2. National University (Bogota) – 84.6
  3. University of Antioquia (Medellin) – 78.7
  4. Javeriana Pontifical University (Bogota) – 76.5
  5. Rosario University (Bogota) – 68.5
  6. Valle University (Cali) – 65.2
  7. Sabana University (Bogota) – 58.8
  8. Industrial University of Santander (Bucaramanga) – 58.3
  9. North University (Barranquilla) – 56.8
  10. University EAFIT (Medellin) -55.0

According to the list, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is the best in Latin America, followed by Brazil’s São Paulo and Unicamp universities.
