Colombia’s inspector general banned the former head of the Bogota Urban Development Institute (IUD) from holding public office for 18 years due to fiscal irregularities found in public transportation projects, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.
According to the radio station, it received a copy of the ruling by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the leaked ruling, Liliana Pardo, who faces wide-ranging corruption charges, is joined by Inocencio Melendez, a lawyer for the IUD who will similarly be banned from holding public office for 17 years for his involvement in the scandal.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation into contracts for projects on 26th street and 10th street, projects that were specifically prioritized by the city. Pardo still faces other criminal investigations.
Melendez accused the suspended mayor of Bogota, Samuel Moreno Rojas and his brother Ivan of complicity in the corruption scandal. According to Melendez, both brothers knew of corruption practices in the IUD and were refered to as “the doctor” and “the boss” respectively by those engaged in corruption.
