Bogota’s international airport ranked among the worst in the world according to online travel agency eDreams.
El Dorado airport in Bogota scored fourth worst on the yearly ranking, based on thousands of reviews from customers passing through airports around the world in 2012. The customers were asked to rate the airports on various criteria such as quality of services, shopping, restaurants, bars and waiting lounges.
Out of a possible five points, Bogota’s El Dorado airport scored a meager 2.78. The worst airport of 2012 was in Senegal, West Africa and scored 2.17 points, and topping the list of best airports is Bangkok, Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport with a score of 4.61.
Commercial vice president of the Viva Colombia airlines, William Shaw, attributed the airport’s poor reputation to the small space allocated to boarding, which lead to frequent delays.
“The spaces for customers has improved considerably compared to what Bogota had before, but sadly the space needed for planes to embark and disembark is still small, which generates many flight delays,” explained Shaw.
Fellow Latin American airports, Guarulhos in São Paulo, Brazil and Jose Marti in Havana, Cuba were ranked the second and third worst airports of 2012.
Late last year, El Dorado opened a new passenger terminal that was designed to enhance traveler experience and diminish congestion in an airport that ranks among the 50 busiest in the world.
