Colombia News - Lights Bogota

Bogota is illuminated for Christmas 2011 with spectacular light displays in 73 different locations across the city.

The theme for this year’s Christmas light displays is “All Under the Same Sky”, with 7 millions lights bringing animated characters and snowstorms to life in multiple locations, some holding special Christmas shows until December 24.

The city’s Plaza Bolivar will host the main Christmas tree, standing 24 meters tall and twinkling in fairy lights. Other decorated areas include Parque de la Independencia, one of Bogota’s oldest parks; the city’s historic colonial center La Candelaria; food and entertainment district Zona T (Calle 85 to Calle 106, along Carrera 15); the roundabout and bridge of Calle 100; Parque Republica de Francia; the residential district of Usaquen; Maloka Square; the Parque National, and Monserrate, the church sitting atop a hill above Bogota.

The lights will be switched on each evening between 6.30PM and midnight from December 2 until January 10. Christmas tours taking in the main light displays will run throughout this period, costing $12,000 COP. For details contact: 3123168018 / 5494290 / 2274480 / 3112060863/ 3213527644.
