Riots in the Colombian capital Bogota have left a vehicle torched, reported local media Wednesday.
Bogota police were forced to block off major streets in the capital Wednesday afternoon, as students began rioting outside the National University.
The masked rioters set fire to a car and threw explosives at authorities, before riot police moved in to quell the violence. The disturbance, which began around noon, ended after four hours. So far, there have been no reports of injuries.
“The directors of the National University of Colombia declare that the situation returned to normal, traffic was restored and academic activities will continue tomorrow as normal,” said a statement by the university.
The students were allegedly protesting the idea of the government privatizing Colombia’s public universities.
