Bogota passed a recent inspection by tourism experts from around the world who noted the city for its positive acceleration towards safety.
The group consisted of 10 international tourism security experts and peers of Colombia’s District Institute including the Dominican Republics Chief of tourism policy, spokesmen from the Israeli and U.S. homosexual and transgender community and government advisors for international events, according to El Espectador.
Primarly, the group praised the city for distancing itself from the stigma of the violence the country has been known for.
Adir Steiner, the Israeli representative and a spokesperson for the homosexual and transgender population in Tel Aviv noted that “This is a city with a wonderful climate, warm and its human quality impressive,’’ going on to say Bogota “could become one of the most attractive tourist destinations today.”
The Brazilian representative, Peter Tarlow, an expert advisor to the 2014 world cup and 2016 Olympics committee, praised the city saying it is “well worth a good week of stay.”
Bogota has felt a growth in tourism in recent years including various international artistic and cultural events, to the extent of expanding their international airport and allowing airlines to create flight routes with less regulations.
The Bogota tourism board stated on their official website that ‘’security measures will be analyzed to make tourism sustainable and safe,’’ by the committee once a list of areas that still need attention is made.
