Bogotá pushes forward public spending

The mayor of Bogotá, Samuel Moreno, ordered that the commencement of public works be expediated in a bid to generate employment and increase spending.

The decision was made as a response to the global economic crisis that is encroaching on the Colombian economy.

According to the administration, public works, including the third phase of the Transmilenio metro system, will generate close to 136 thousand jobs in 2009.
