Bogota police shot and killed a man on Wednesday as he held a family of six hostage in their home.
The hostage-taker entered the family’s home through the roof in the afternoon and held the three adults and three children at gunpoint until evening.
A call from neighbors alerted the police who arrived at the scene and began the confrontation with the 35-year old offender.
According to police, the gunman shot several times, hitting one officer who was saved by his bulletproof vest. When police returned fire on the suspect, he was fatally wounded.
A team from Colombia’s prosecutor general’s office arrived later to inspect and remove the body.
According to authorities, the hostage-taker was part of a group who kidnapped Leonardo Quevado Castillo, a public defender of 45 years who was also rescued on Wednesday.
