Bogota’s District Institute of Tourism (IDT) will open a Tourism Observatory in Bogota Wednesday that features information and statistics about tourism in Colombia’s capital city, reported newspaper El Espectador.
The launch of the observatory will occur during ongoing event called “Tourism, generator of sustainable development for Bogota,” in which more than 400 businesses in the sector will be participating in an analysis regarding the economic, environmental, and sociocultural contributions and potential tourism has for the city. The observatory itself with feature statistics and censuses from hotels, travel agencies, and the travelers that visit the capital.
“The Bogota tourism observatory is very important, we have been working very seriously to produce statistics on tourism in the city; this is a job that we have been done through partnerships with multiple entities that allows us to show how this sector has been increasingly important for Colombian cities. Currently, tourism is the largest employer in the city, the main generator of foreign exchange for the country, and an industry that is constantly projecting a positive image of the city,” explained IDT’s Director Nohora Isabel Vargas.
Bogota boasts a richness of over 465 tourist attractions and 17 tourism routes that make the city the number one destination in Colombia and a top destination in Latin America.
