Bogota’s murder rate increased 10% this year compared to the same period in 2008, the capital city council reported on Thursday.
In spite of discrepancies between the numbers reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the local forensics institute, and the National Police, the city authorities agree that crime rate between January 1 and September 5 has gone up.
While the PG reports 1100 criminal homicides and forensics counts 1047, the National Police compiled only 876 intentional killings in Colombia’s capital city in the current year.
Bogota’s city council, basing its view on the PG and forensics figures, concludes there has been a 10% increase in the number of murders.
