Colombia’s Attorney General has opened an investigation into the Mayor of Bogota’s role in the hiring of officials suspected of lacking the experience required for their positions, local media reported Wednesday.
Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro was implicated in the hiring of Polo Avila, who allegedly held no previous professional title, as manager of the safety and security fund. Avilia is no longer in office.
The Attorney General’s Office was also beginning an investigation into the appointment of Dolly Arias to director of corporate governance of the Municipality of Bogota.
“We having the binding investigation order in this disciplinary action for a preliminary inquiry into the following public officials: Gustavo Petro Urrego, in his capacity as Mayor of Bogota, Eduardo Noriega, in his capacity as Secretary General of City Hall,” the investigation order read, according to RCN Radio.
