Colombia news - Jazz

There will be three days to enjoy festivities of the yearly music festival Jazz in the Park as it celebrate its 17th year in Colombia’s capital Bogota from September 7-9.

Jazz, considered by many to be the most influential genre of the 20th century and a universal heritage in the field of fusion, will be celebrated in Bogota’s July 20th Plaza for the opening gala of the festival.

The event starts at 9AM and will offer presentations of renowned artists such as breakdancing crews, folk groups with jazz dances, and academic workshops about the history of jazz, among many others.

The gala will include a concert from the group Big Band Jazz Bogota, made up of 23 local musicians performing Colombian compositions and arrangements in the language of jazz. They will reinvent the original sentiment of the music, interpreted with rhythm, sonorous phrases and harmonies of African origin, said Radio Santa Fe.

Commercial founders of the District Market Plazas have been specially invited to the festival to enjoy jazz for the first time from some of the greatest interpreters of the genre.

The event is meant to recognize the rich cultural tradition in knowledge and flavors as a milestone in the transormation of segregation as the city moves forward in the social inclusion of Bogota’s Human Development Plan.

“We continue strengthening the entrepreneurship processes of the popular economy in these kinds of events. Jazz as an element of the popular culture permits the reduction of the economic and social segregation of the citizens of Bogota of all corners of the city,” said Jorge Reinel Pulecio, director of the Institute for Social Economy.

The festival is an activity that looks to strengthen the popular economy with the participation of 20 production units from victims of the armed conflict. The Institute for Social Economy will also offer a gastronomic show from all regions of the country, stimulating their social and economic contribution, which often gets overlooked.

Jazz in the Park will be a great opportunity to share, relax and enjoy the best of jazz music. Everyone is welcome and more information about the event can be found here.
