Bogota Health authorities announced Wednesday an international school closed its doors after a student was confirmed to have swine flu.
“Closing the school was a preventive measure, planned by the school itself and most of all due to the confirmd AH1N1 infection of a pupil. All preventive and follow-up measures have been taken,” Liliana Cepeda, director the capital’s Public Health Institute told media.
The health official added the infected pupil, an 8-year-old boy, is doing well.
The school, Colegio Anglo Colombiano, wrote parents that it decided to close the doors because of fears a recent salmonella poisoning of pupils could endanger the children’s resistance to the swine flu.
The school expects to open its door next week again.
The total number of officially confirmed swine flu infections in Colombia is set at 795. 43 of the patients died of the disease.
