Colombia’s new housing minister complained Wednesday about an alleged lack of cooperation of the capital Bogota concerning the building of free homes for the poor.
Housing Minister Luis Felipe Henao told Caracol Radio that the capital’s administration has given a terrain full of rubbish to construct housing for the capital’s poorest. Additionally, the minister said that property documents delivered last week had yet not been legalized.
Most importantly, Bogota is using the budget for 100,000 homes for the construction of only 675 new houses, the minister said.
Henao criticized Bogota Housing Secretary Maria Mercedes Maldonado who allegedly is not aware of what is happening in her office.
“What it shows is that Mrs. Maria Mercedes Maldonado is not aware of what is going on in her Office,” Henao said.
The minister added that the lack of priority for free housing construction in Bogota has become a concern for the national government that throughout the country is trying to construct a million houses in an effort to decrease poverty in Colombia.
