Health Secretary Héctor Zambrano put Bogota on yellow alert in order to exercise strict control over arrivals from Mexico, although there are no confirmed cases of swine flu in the country.
Eleven arrivals to Bogota’s El Dorado airport from Mexico are currently being monitored by the public health system. They will remain under observation until it can be confirmed that they don’t have swine flu.
Because of fears of the swine flu and its effects on the already shaky economy and effects on tourism, the Colombian peso dropped 1.3 percent when markets opened Monday.
