National government agency Accion Social was criticized for providing “band aid solutions” to the issue of forced displacement in Colombia.
Clara Lopez, Secretary of the Bogota Mayor’s Office said that the capital city is not equipped to deal with the 50 displaced families that arrive there daily.
Lopez said Accion Social needs to “find and provide definitive resolutions for these families becuase there are 3 million [displaced] people seeking housing solutions. It’s something that can’t be sustained”.
There are a thousand displaced people residing in Bogota’s Parque Tercer Milenio, partly in protest over the forced displacement crisis. Lopez said the Bogota Mayor’s office has found temporary housing for them but many have stayed in the park to continue the protest.
Accion Social is the presidential agency responsible for the care of displaced Colombains.
Forced displacement is a grave problem in Colombia and many displaced people are unable to return to their homes due to the
insecurity created by violence between illegal armed groups.
