Colombia’s auditor general will bring sanctions against the Bogota comptroller following supposed irregularities in the regulation of public works contracts, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.
The auditor’s office found through an investigation that Miguel Angel Moralesrussi, who is already facing corruption proceedings, does not have an information system in place to monitor the awarding of contracts.
The special audit began last July and noted that by the end of 2010, the number of contracted projects reached 105,000, with about 180 construction sites.
It appears, however, that the Institute of Urban Development (IDU) audits found that there was inadequate coverage of these projects, while monitoring of the planning stages produced the highest percentage of irregularities.
According to W Radio Thursday, Auditor General Ivan Dario Gomez Lee ordered the comptroller to take corrective measures regarding the fiscal accountability of contracting in the capital back in November of last year.
