An ambulance belonging to a Bogotá public hospital was found transporting tourists express way through the capital, the police said Monday.
The ambulance was found with eight tourists in the back and was offering trips through the city without having to wait for traffic lights or be hindered by any other of the urban transport discomforts.
The tourists were discovered when Police asked the driver to stop to inspect the vehicle. Inside the ambulance were eight men, women and children with luggage and everything occupying the ambulance’s stretchers and first aid kits as chairs, police commander Juan Pelaez told French press agency AFP.
The driver was taking advantage of the city’s tourist high season and charged each passenger 8,000 pesos for a ride with the sirens and lights turned on.
Police seized the ambulance. The driver will have to pay a substantial fine for breaking traffic regulations.
