Colombian and Venezuelan film buffs will gather in two border towns to celebrate the second Bi-National Film Festival.
The festival, which showcases films from both countries, will be held May 12-16 in the border towns of Cucuta, Colombia and San Cristobal, Venezuela.
Each country will present six films at the festival and the winners will be distributed in the neighboring country.
Colombia’s six films were selected by the Colombian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after meeting the criteria of having been representative of the country’s previous three years.
Among the chosen Colombian films are “Choco,” “La Playa DC” (DC Beach),”Sofia y El Terco” (Sofia and the Stubborn), “La Sirga” (The Towpath), “La Cara Oculta” (The Hidden Face) and “El Cartel de Los Sapos” (The Cartel of Snitches).
Venezuelan films were elected by the Foundation for the Development of Arts and Culture (FUNDEARC) and include “El Rumor de las Piedras” (The Rumor of the Stones) and “El Manzano Azul” (The Blue Apple Tree).
Besides competing for distribution rights, the competition will have awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and an Audience Award.
Festival judges will include the director of the underworld Bogota film Blood and Rain, Jorge Navas, as well Lisandro Duque Naranjo, director of the mystical film, Invisible Children.
