Betancourt to withdraw from the public sphere

Former hostage Ingrid Betancourt announced she will withdraw from the
public eye for at least half a year in 2009 after receiving the Woman of the
Year award.

“My retirement from the public life is selfish, but I have to do it.  I think I will be isolated for at least six months,” she said in the Austrian capital Vienna.
