The first “International Music Festival of Bogota” will take place from March 27 to March 30 in a spectacular four-day event that features 56 concerts and over 420 guest artists focussing on the music of Ludwig van Beethoven.
The festival will take place every two years and each time it will be dedicated to a different composer or genre. This year’s event will focus on the work of Ludwig van Beethoven and has been dubbed, “Bogota is Beethoven” and will be showcased in 12 different locations across the city.
Bogota was recently named a creative capital of music by UNESCO making it just the fifth city in the world to be given such a distinction. Seville, Bologna, Glasgow, and Ghent are the four others.
Russian violinist, Viktoria Mullova, pianist Bezerovsky, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Simon Bolivar Quartet of Venezuela, French pianist Jean Philippe Collard, and the Szymanowski Quartet from the Ukraine are among the international guests.
Blanca Uribe, Eduardo Rojas, The Manolov Quartet, the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, and the Saint Cecilia Choral society are some of the native acts that will be playing.
One of the events, “White Night,” will star different Colombian artists who will recreate the music of Beethoven in their own individual styles.
