Hotel El Prado in Barranquilla got it’s power shut off Wednesday for owing $55,860 dollars to Electricaribe in unpaid electricity bills.
According to Electricaribe officials, the electricity debt corresponds to the hotel’s lack of payment for their July, August, and September bills.
Electicaribe also noted that the lack of correspondence from El Prado staff had prompted them to take drastic measures and cut off the hotel’s power services completely.
As a cautious measure the hotel’s staff had previously installed a back-up generator capable of sustaining 20 guest rooms with the necessary power.
However, the back-up power is not enough to keep the hotel’s elevators or air conditioning functioning.
This is just one of the problems faced by the flagship hotel in Barranquilla, newspaper El Espectador reported, and the deteriorating infrastructure of El Prado indicates they face far more complex problems.
Allegedly the downhill spiral began when the most recent hotel administrator took over, and failed to upkeep the hotel, which now has an increasingly smaller occupancy rate.
