A judge has revoked house arrest for Alirio de Jesus Rendon, alias “El Cebollero,” a former leader of the Medellin drug gang Oficina de Envigado, and ordered his return to prison.
Medellin Judge Gabriel Fernando Roldan’s ruling followed a secondary medical evaluation of El Cebollero, which determined that the convict’s health problems were not severe enough to warrant house arrest, according to Caracol TV.
El Cebollero was discharged from Itagui maximum-security prison and placed under house arrest August 26 based on the evaluation of two Legal Medicine doctors. According to this initial diagnosis, El Cebollero was suffering from critical heart trouble.
The release triggered an investigation that led to the suspension of the two Legal Medicine doctors, who reportedly made the diagnosis without obtaining the required signature of the organization’s director.
The convict will return to Itagui, although he will be detained with a higher level of care in accordance with a recommendation from his secondary medical evaluation.
Many suspect that El Cebollero, who carried out much of Oficina’s money laundering and drug dealing business, was named to be the successor of alias “Don Berna,” the godfather of Oficina de Envigado.
He was sentenced to four years and two months in prison in March 2010.
