A Colombian child of seventeen-months died after her mother tried to cure her of an illness by putting her inside the stomach of cow, reported Colombian media on Sunday.
The child was taken by her mother to the San Rafael Hospital emergency room in the central Colombian city of Ibague, where doctors found her airway blocked with cow manure.
The baby’s mother told doctors that she had put the child inside the stomach of a cow on the recommendation of a local healer, who said the child was suffering an infection caught from a family member.
Staff confirmed that the child had died of asphyxiation from the manure in her throat. Reports are unclear as to whether the child died on arrival at the hospital or before hand.
The hospital has reported the case to local authorities for investigation.
