Colombia’s inspector general says congressman German Olano and Bogota‘s Comptroller Miguel Moralesrussi, who are under investigation in the city’s corruption scandal, have a combined $400,000 in assets that cannot be accounted for.
During oral court proceedings Friday Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez said congressman Olano has $150,000 (COP279,873), and Bogota’s County Comptroller Moralesrussi $250,000 (COP467,279) that should be investigated, reports newspaper El Tiempo.
Numerous officials in the capital city are being questioned over the alleged granting of public works contracts to the Nule Group in exchange for payment.
The inspector general says that sufficient evidence exists to demonstrate the responsibility of these officials in the alleged exchange of money for contracts.
El Tiempo reported that the prosecution has testimony from December 17, 2010, from the director of the Nule Group, Guido Nule. The director describes meeting with Moralesrussi and Olano on a Saturday morning in a Bogota hotel and discussing the topic of Nule paying the officials in exchange for being a favorite for the bid to build a new TransMilenio line in the city.
Olano’s defense lawyer, Diego Corredor, claimed that this evidence was obtained illegally, reports W Radio.
