The Aguasal, an indigenous community of around 500 people, live in a part of Chocó where guerrillas, drug gangs and the army are fighting over control of the area.According to local indigenous groups, the army is preventing food to enter the region, because they argue it’s meant for guerrillas. Restaurants and schools complain they have no access to food.The Aguasal community is surrounded by armed military groups that don’t allow the farmers access to their crops and are stealing the vegetables and fruits straight of the fields. Farmers in surrounding areas say some of this year’s crops have died, because they weren’t able to irrigate the fields.Because of their isolation the Aguasal have no access to medical aid.The past two years 80 children in the region died of preventible and cureable diseases. In March last year twelve children reportedly died of malnutricion in the area.
