Venezuelan authorities have initiated the process of deporting former FARC leader Guillermo Enrique Torres Cueter, alias “Julian Conrado,” to Colombia, following his Wednesday arrest.
Once Torres is deported, Colombian authorities are considering his extradition to the United States, because a red notice has been issued by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), for charges of drug trafficking and conspiracy, reported La F.M. Meanwhile, eight separate arrest warrants have been issued for Torres in his home country, mainly in the south of the country.
The former right-hand man of fallen FARC commander alias “Raul Reyes,” known for composing songs about life as a guerrilla, was caught in Venezuela on Wednesday in a joint operation by Venezuelan and Colombian authorities.
Torres was originally thought to have been killed in the March 1, 2008 bombing of a FARC camp that killed Reyes, but the body originally thought to be Torres’ turned out to belong to an Ecuadorian civilian.
