Inspector General Alejandro Ordonez questioned the stand-off between the government and the High Courts, and said that due to this Colombia was passing from “a fool country to a crazy country.”
Speaking at a National Council meeting in Bucaramanga, Ordonez said that the executive power and judicial branch of Colombia had entered into a confrontation that was overflowing and affecting the whole nation.
He expressed concern that his constitutional role was becoming that of a madhouse guardian, reported W Radio.
Ordonez urged aldermen to reject those events which he described as hurting the country, and appealed to the High Courts and government to restore calm and act in the interests of the nation.
The Supreme Court has clashed on numerous occasions with Uribe’s government coalition in Congress over paramilitary ties of congressmen, government corruption and bribery cases, the alleged ties between court magistrates and drug lords, etc.
A government reaction to the Attorney General’s statements is expected, as President Alvaro Uribe is guest of honor at the meeting.
