Colombia news - Falcao

The Atletico Madrid soccer team launched a campaign on Friday to boost Radamel Falcao’s bid for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Madrid launched a multi-faceted promotional campaign on Friday aimed at raising the profile of their star player, Falcao, who is expected to be among a list of ten players nominated, due to be announced on October 29.

The team’s website posted a video (see below) in which all the road signs leading up to the Vicente Calderon stadium have been replaced with the image of a tiger’s head as Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” plays in the background in honor of Falcao, who is nicknamed “El Tigre”.

The club also took to Twitter via the hashtag #UnTigreDeOro in attempts to cover all bases in their effort to get the Colombian superstar selected as the world’s best player.

El Tigre has scored 16 goals in 10 games for club and country this season and is tied for second in the Spanish La Liga scoring charts with nine goals.

Atletico are currently riding a 10-game winning streak and has not lost a match since April – a run of 20 games.
